Peggy Lou Porterfield Long

HURDLE MILLS --- Peggy Lou Porterfield Long, 81, of 117 Snipes Road, Hurdle Mills, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 surrounded by her family in her home. Born in Person County, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Ernest Clifton and Louise Blalock Porterfield and wife of 60 years to the late Winfred (Wimp) Earl Long. Mrs. Long was also preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Long and her brothers Victor, Bobby, Donald, and Jimmy Porterfield. Mrs. Long was employed at various manufacturing jobs throughout her life.  She was a charter member of Five Forks Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School alongside her mother. Mrs. Long was know for her cooking skills.  She made many delicious cakes every Christmas. Her children and family loved her homemade macaroni and cheese, chocolate pies, cherries in the snow and many other dishes that she cooked so well. She enjoyed working in the yard and keeping her house in immaculate condition. She was well loved and will be missed by many.

Mrs. Long is survived by her son, Linwood Long and wife Deborah, of Hurdle Mills; five grandchildren, Jessica Stephens and husband Ryan, Jonathan Long and wife Hannah, Jenna Long, Gabby Long and Joseph Long; six great-grandchildren, Aubree, Braleigh, Westlyn and Taelyn Long and Alivia and Carah Bohanon; her siblings, Carol Davis, Tony Porterfield, Diane Cole and husband Pete, Wanda McCullough and husband David and Rebecca Landrum and husband Wayne; her sisters-in-law, Peggy Porterfield, Doris Winstead and Jean Porterfield.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022 at Five Forks Baptist Church by the Pastor Glenn Farren. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday at Five Forks Baptist Church prior to the service and at other times at the home.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Long, Joseph Long, Ryan Stephens, Dale Brown, Danny Long, Wesley Winstead, Cliff Porterfield, and Ronnie Porterfield.  Honorary pallbearer will be Amanda Carey.
