John Chapman “Jack” Michie III

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- John Chapman “Jack” Michie III died peacefully on July 19, 2022, surrounded by his family after a brief illness at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, Va.

Son of Charles Martin Michie, Sr and Helen Kendall Harris Michie, Mr. Michie was born Dec. 23, 1934 in Roxboro. He attended Person County schools and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and graduated in 1957. 

Mr. Michie was employed by Milliken & Company, a textile company headquartered in Spartanburg, S.C. He remained at Milliken his entire career where he became Corporate Head of Human Resources. He retired from Milliken & Co in 1998 after 40 years of dedicated service.

Mr. Michie was active in both his community and his church. He was a strong athlete and his passion was running. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. His laugh was big, his hug was strong and his heart was full of sweet joy. 

Mr. Michie is survived by his loving and devoted wife the former Mary Jo (Jodie) Myrick of 64 years, their three daughters and two grandchildren: Mary Page Michie of Charlotte, Elizabeth Leigh (Lili) Michie of Richmond, Va. and Rebecca Harris Michie McVeigh of Lynchburg, Va. Her husband Charles Bonsall McVeigh and their two children, daughter Emory Harris McVeigh and son Charles Bonsall McVeigh, Jr. 

Mr. Michie is proceeded in death by his parents, Charles Martin Michie, Sr and Helen Kendall Harris Michie, his two brothers Charles Martin Michie, Jr and William “Bill” Harris Michie as well as his grandson William Henry McVeigh.
