Jeanette Grinstead Davis, age 95, of Roxboro, passed away encircled by her family on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, while in hospice care at Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Trojan Baxter Grinstead, Sr. and Annie Wrenn Grinstead. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, of 66 years, Elder Charles B. Davis, Jr. (C.B.).
Jeanette was born in the Payne’s Tavern community of Person County on Dec. 27, 1926. She lived her entire life in the area where she enjoyed close family and neighbor relationships. Along with C.B., they afforded many of their nieces and nephews farm experiences during the summer growing season. They relished “Aunt Jenny’s” delicious country cooked meals with fried chicken and cornbread among their favorites.
Mrs. Davis was sister to her late siblings: Chesley Grinstead (Eva), Julia G. Jones (Linwood), Melba G. Horton (Tom), Trojan Baxter Grinstead, Jr. (Alice) and H. Pasco Grinstead (Betty). She was also preceded in death by two sons: Larry G. Davis and Bobby E. Davis.
Surviving are two sons: Charles B. Davis III of Roxboro, James N. Davis (Faye) of Raleigh; one daughter, Barbara D. Lockhart (Errol) of Roxboro; three daughter-in-laws, Irene Davis of Beaufort, Sandra Davis, Rene Powell (Gary), all of Roxboro; one son-in-law, Ron Phipps (Sharon) of Roxboro. She also had 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In her early years, Jeanette, worked at Roses and later at the Carolina Parachute Company, while always being a devoted wife and a loving mother to her five children.
Jeanette was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church; being the last surviving member when the church closed in 2014. For 50 years she traveled with and supported Elder Davis as he served numerous Primitive Baptist Churches. In her youth she attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, returning in her eighties to worship there again.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so from 12-5 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Brooks & White Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (1-2 p.m.).
As a resident at Cambridge Hills, Jeanette was known by caretakers for her infectious smile and gentle spirit. Her family is grateful to the many staff members who diligently assisted and lovingly cared for her. Also, extensions of thanks to Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center staff for their care including their collaboration with Liberty Hospice.
