Helen Mary Tatsey Hobgood, 88, of Roxboro, died Monday, June 27 at Duke University Hospital. She was born May 10, 1934 to Sybil (Davis) Tatsey and Thomas Sylvester Tatsey in Raleigh, NC. She graduated from The Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina and spent her nursing career at Person Memorial Hospital ICU and the Person County Health Department. After retirement, she volunteered at Person Memorial Hospital doing Lifeline and most recently in the surgical waiting room. In addition, she played as much bridge as possible, exercised at the gym eight times per week, and served in several capacities at Roxboro Baptist Church where she proclaimed her faith through baptism and service. She married James Barnett Hobgood in 1956, and together they had three daughters, who survive: Sybil (David) Stremler, Lynne (Bill) Fleet, Bonnie (Jerry) Kimbro. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Carter (Karah) Fleet, Taylor Fleet, Caroline Kimbro, Malachi (Naomi) Kimbro, and Noam Kimbro. She is also survived by her brother James Morton and is preceded in death by her sister Candace Currin.
She loved deeply her family, her church, her many friends, and especially her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom, she served with gladness.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. at Roxboro Baptist Church on Friday, July 1, 2022 with the Dr. DuPre Sanders officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (1-2 p.m.).
