Gertie Frances Kendrick Duncan

LEASBURG --- Gertie Frances Kendrick Duncan, 79, of Leasburg, died Monday, May 9, 2022 at her home. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Bascom Eli Kendrick and Jodie Frances Neathery Kendrick and wife of the late, Jerry Gwynn Duncan.

Surviving are her three children: Sheri Gwynn Duncan Van Horn and husband, Steven of Semora, Jerry Gwynn Duncan II and Kaylin Troy Duncan both of Leasburg; two brothers: Jerry Kendrick (Cindy) and Wallace Kendrick (Ida) all of Leasburg; four grandchildren: Jailyn Mattos, Morgan Mattos, Mallory Mattos and Blake Duncan.

Ms. Duncan was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Danville, Virginia as an accountant for over 30 years.  During her time at Goodyear, she made lifelong friends that remained a part of her life long after she retired. She retired shortly after her first granddaughter was born so she could be an active part of her life, and for the 3 granddaughters that followed. Ms. Duncan lived her life to the fullest, whether it was spending time in her garden; enjoying her morning coffee; taking many trips with her husband in their RV; taking her children and grandchildren shopping on Sundays after church; listening and dancing to music.  More recently, “Mimi” was even known for making Tik-Tok videos with her grandchildren. She was known throughout the community for making her delicious cupcakes and sending them to the school for special occasions. Ms. Duncan volunteered as a coach for the local softball team and would often drive to every player’s house to pick them for practices and games. She was very active in the Leasburg United Methodist Church, serving for a time as the Church Treasurer.  Ms. Duncan was a beautiful, genuine, sweet soul who lived a full, joyous life that would be envied by all; creating a lifetime of memories with her family and friends and being such a positive, caring and considerate influence to everyone she knew.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Leasburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Leasburg Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (1-2PM).
