Bernice Flint Oakley “Rabbit” of Roxboro, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, peacefully in his sleep at home in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mary Oakley, seven siblings, and sons, Bernice Flint Oakley, Jr. and Alan Kent Oakley.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clarice “Mack” Oakley; children, Gary and Kathy (Baynard) Oakley of Roxboro, Bernie and Melanie (Brownfield) Oakley of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, Heather Oakley, Will and Kristy (Oakley) Gentry, Caleb Oakley, Kailey Oakley, A.J. Oakley and Colt Oakley; and his two great granddaughters, Arabella and Waverly.
Bernice lived a full life working at Crown Aluminum and Cedar Grove golf course. He was always the life of the party and lived with passion. In his retirement years he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, golfing, and fishing. He always had a great hello to share along with a smile.
Despite battling kidney failure, Bernice found friendship with all his technicians at the dialysis centers in Roxboro and Myrtle Beach. He stayed positive until the end, and in his final days enjoyed going to the beach, pool, eating crab legs and playing cards, “quarters”. He was able to prepare his mind and soul, and he was at peace with his decision to stop dialysis treatments. Bernice made a final trip to his hometown recently and was able to say “goodbye” to most of his friends and family. This brought him great joy. We know he is celebrating in Heaven and enjoying a few rounds of golf.
A visitation will be held at Brooks and White Funeral Home in Roxboro on Saturday June 25 at 1-2:30 p.m. A reception for friends and family will follow at Somerset Baptist Church.
