Youth bring Legally Blonde to the Kirby stage

Roxboro Little Theater’s Youth Production “Legally Blonde Jr: The Musical.” will be staged Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3-4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 5 at 3 p.m. The show is directed by Kelly Rogers with Amber Carver as assistant director. Mike Moose is the musical director with Kyle Moore will play bass along with Damien Miles on drums.

Legally Blonde Jr is based on an award-winning Broadway musical and the smash hit motion picture. The storyline for Legally Blonde Jr. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she’s not serious enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-anddance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

The Legally Blonde Jr production has 24 talented youth, 13 production team members and parent volunteers who have worked hard to bring to life a wonderful story based on Elle.

“This has been a wonderful group of kids to work with. They’ve poured their heart and soul into this production and Roxboro is in for a real treat,” Rogers said.

Assistant Director Amber Carver says the talent on stage will surprise audience members. “Being the assistant director for Legally Blonde Jr has been such a rewarding experience. I am so proud of what these talented young actors and actresses have accomplished in such a short time. They keep getting so much better each night,” Carver said.

“Playing the role of Elle Woods has been an amazing experience for me. I’m so happy that I got to make this role my own and put my own touch on it. And trust me I have loved every minute of it. Not only getting to do this show but being able to be a part of this cast has been so rewarding. We have put a tremendous amount of work into this show and we hope you come out and enjoy every bit of it.” said Mary Beth Fuller, who plays the leading role of Elle Woods.
