Mr. Willie Russell Lunsford, Sr., 76, of 1084 Hurdle Mills Road, Roxboro, departed this life Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in UNC-Hospitals: Hillsborough Campus. He was a native of Person County and a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church.

He was also a Mason and a member of Battle Ax Lodge #120 in Person County.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Earlie and Espanola Holloway Lunsford; two brothers, Earl Grady Lunsford and James Lunsford; and a grandson, Troi Ryan Lunsford.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie B. Lunsford of the home; three children: Ronnie Neal Lunsford and Colonel G. Wayne Lunsford (Paula), both of Roxboro and the Rev. Willie Russell Lunsford, Jr. (Lequetta) of Greensboro; eight grandchildren: Ron, Danielle, Tyler, Demetrius, Johnathan, Trae, Zachariah and Sasha; two great-grandchildren, Ashanti and Javor; six sisters-in-law: Doris Lunsford, Mary Ann Bowman, Shirley Mitchell, Erma Corbett, Deborah Paylor (Chris) and Karen Bolton; one brother-in-law, Arnold Bolton (Alease); and a host of nieces, nephews, other additional relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, 780 Barnette-Tingen Road, Roxboro, with the Rev. Ronald Booker, Sr., pastor, officiating and providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 1 – 6 p.m. with the family present during the last hour from 5 – 6 p.m. Masonic rites will also be Friday during the last hour at the visitation.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his son, Col. Wayne Lunsford, 2258 Molly Mooney Road, Roxboro.

His body will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service.
