William Ray Porterfield, 55, of 554 Hugh Woods Rd Roxboro, died peacefully at his home on Monday March 11, 2019.
Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Alice Porterfield. Willie was fortunate enough that his career was also the thing he loved doing most, farming. He was not only a good steward of the land he tended, he truly loved the hard work. His favorite joke was that he was “outstanding in his field.” He loved hunting, bluegrass music, John Deeres, and Chevrolets. Willie was always known to have a joke and the only thing he loved more than cutting up with his friends was his family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 36 years, Tina Porterfield, his children Matt (Chelsea) Porterfield and Caitlin (Stuart) Clark all of Roxboro, his granddaughter Ellie Grace Porterfield and one grandchild on the way, and his mother-in-law Lavonne Morris. He is also survived by one brother, Bobby Porterfield (Jennifer) of Hurdle Mills, as well as a multitude of friends who have been so supportive during his years of fighting. Willie was truly a kind soul and while we know he is at peace, our corner of the world will always be a lot darker.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Norma Roberts and the Rev. Amanda Dixson.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the Brooks & White Chapel and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Carolina Donor Services, 3621 Lyckan Parkway, Durham, NC 27707 or Longhurst United Methodist Church, 265 Providence Road, Roxboro, NC 27573.
