To the editor:
In the June 29 edition of The Courier-Times, the editorial about the YMCA dismissed the economic value of having a Y in your city. The opening of a Y would stimulate the area in which it would be built. This would be a boom for Uptown at the old Leggett building or the Longhurst Mill, bringing revitalization to that area as well.
Having an indoor pool and jacuzzi, gym, walking track, conference rooms and other recreational activities all in one location is priceless. Nowhere now, that I know of, can a senior go and enjoy an indoor pool and jacuzzi for its theraputic value.
As far as cost, YMCA membership is extremely affordable with many different options. Your editorial unfairly dismisses the overwhelming advantages that Person County would benefit from by having a YMCA.
I send a resounding message of support for those that would like a Y here and will support it with membership and attendance. I and, I’m sure, many residents of Person County likewise support having a YMCA in our community.
