Mr. Wayne Douglas “Doug” Lunsford, 66, of 113 Cleveland Lane, Roxboro, succumbed to his battle with cancer Monday, March 4, 2019 in Durham, in the loving care of his family. Wayne “Doug” was a beloved long-time member of the Roxboro Community and was a graduate of Person High School.
He was formerly a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church until his marriage and relocation.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Ann Jacobs Lunsford and an aunt, Annie Maude Goods.
He is survived by his daughters: April K. Lunsford of Springfield, Va., Tonya Turner (Charles) of Fort Washington, Md., Sasha Woods and Latoria Villines, both of Roxboro; his sons: David Wayne Lunsford (Natasha) of Ellicott City, Md., Marcus M. Lunsford of Atlanta, Ga. and Jamar Norwood of Roxboro; 34 grandchildren; four sisters: Anna L. Rogers (Gus) of Butner, Annie L. Paylor of Durham, Lulla L. Street of Roxboro and Ruby Short Williams (Dennis) of Washington, D.C.; four brothers: Larry Lunsford, Charles Lunsford and Robert Lunsford, all of Roxboro and James Lunsford (Faviola) of Durham; aunts: Katie Sue Ragland of Roxboro and Diane Jacobs of Durham, Lula Clark, Mary Pettiford (George) and Elizabeth Blackwell; uncles: Preston Jacobs and Leroy Jacobs, both of Durham, Nathaniel Cates (Nancy), Robert Lunsford (Willow Ree) and Eddie Lunsford, Jr. (Margaret); and a host of other additional relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 12 p.m. at Cunningham and Nelson Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Stanton officiating and providing the eulogy. Visitation will also be Sunday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. when his body will lie in state.
At other times, the family will receive friends at 100 Leasburg Road, Roxboro.
