  • The Person Area Transportation System Advisory Board, meetings for the 2019 calendar year will be held on the following dates: March 6; June 5; Sept. 4; and Dec. 4. The meetings will be held at the Person Area Transportation System office, at 341 S. Madison Blvd. Meetings are held at 4 p.m.
  • Narcotics Anonymous, meets at 7 p.m. Sundays; at 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and at noon on Wednesdays at Reformation Christian Center.
  • AA Champions Group, meets at New Brook United Methodist Church, 267 Old Durham Road, at noon Tuesdays and Fridays; at 8 p.m. Wednesday; and at 1 p.m. Saturdays.
  • Person County Al-Anon, meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Long Memorial United Methodist Church in Roxboro.
  • Dual Recovery Anonymous, meets at 3:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Christian Help Center.

  • AA New Beginnings Group, has closed literature study meetings at 7 p.m. on Fridays at New Brook United Methodist Church, 265 Old Durham Road, Roxboro.
  • AA Back Room Group, meets at 6 p.m. on Sundays at the Hurdle Mills Fire Department.

  • The American Red Cross, has scheduled these blood drives for January:
  • Piedmont Electric office, at 1125 Oxford Road, Thursday, Jan. 10 from 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. The event is open to all employees and the local community. Donors who wish to register to donate can go to: www.redcrossblood.org and search by sponsor code: Piedmont.
  • Theresa Baptist Church, at 3919 Chub Lake Road, Sunday, Jan. 13 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

  • The Person County Habitat For Humanity, yard sale will be from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 and from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. Organizers are offering the following items at 50 percent off: all furniture, lamps, pictures and rugs. Donated items will be accepted. Habitat for Humanity Yard Sale is located at 108 Carver Drive.
  • The Roxboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is hosting its 34th annual Martin Luther King Jr. banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Homestead Steakhouse & Restaurant in Timberlake. The speaker will be Rebekah Barber, researcher and writer at Facing South/Institute for Southern Studies. She is the daughter of political leader Rev. William Barber II.   • The Person Senior Center, at 87 Semora Road, will host three craft classes in January:
  • Deco Mesh Winter Wreath class, Friday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. Learn the simplest, most basic mesh tecbnique - the poof. Instructor will be Pam Gaffney. Cost is $30. Register and pay in cash by Wednesday, Jan. 9. Cost includes pre-cut mesh, form, chenille stems, embellishments and white ribbon bow.
  • Jewelry class, Thursday, Jan. 24 from 2 - 3 p.m. Become a jewelry designer in a one-hour class creating a pair of earrings from wrapped copper wire and beads. Class is limited to six students. Cost is $10. Register and pay in cash by Thursday, Jan. 17. All materials will be provided. Tools will be provided during class or may be purchased at cost.
  • Birdhouse gourd painting class, Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 2 - 5 p.m. Participants will receive a prepared gourd (dried, cured and drilled) and learn how to paint a design on it with acrylic paints. Cost is $15 per person. Registration is required in advance. Register and pay in cash by Wednesday, Jan. 23. All materials are supplied.

  • Roxboro Photography Club, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Person County Senior Center. Guest speaker will be Jamie Harris, owner of Jamie Harris Photography. A native of Roxboro, Harris has spent more than 37 years behind the camera shooting professionally for the past eight years. His specialties include portrait photography, professional/corporate headshots and commercial photography.
  • The Person Senior Center, will host a Valentine Dance from 7 - 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Pre-sale tickets are $8 each and $10 each at the door. Adult admission only. DJ will be Tim Winstead. Complimentary light snacks will be provided. Attire: put some dazzle in your dress, wear your Sunday best!
