  • The Person County Tourism Development Authority, will meet at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14 in the TDA conference room at 705 Durham Road.
  • The Rox ‘N Roll Cruise-in, will take place from 6 - 8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16 in Uptown Roxboro. The event is free.
  • Descendants of Reuben Malcom Allen, will meet at 1 p.m., Aug. 17 at Wheeler’s Primitive Baptist Church for a covered dish lunch. Malcom’s first wife was Mary Victoria Whitefield, with whom he had five children. At her death, Malcolm married Olena Rogers, with whom he had 13 children. Many of the Allen descendants still live in the Bushy Fork area.
  • The Bethel Hill Charter School Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Aug. 20, at Bethel Hill Charter School.
  • The Roxboro Photography Club, will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Aug. 20 at the Person County Senior Center. Donnie Solomon, a free-lance photographer, will be the guest speaker. He will address the club about action photography. The club welcomes guests and new members.
  • The Person County Museum of History, will host a seminar from 5:30 - 7 p.m., Aug. 22 upstairs at the Kirby Theater. The seminar by Dr. Norman Pendergraft, Professor Emeritus at North Carolina Central University, will focus on historic gardens, including formal French gardens and naturalistic English gardens. Tickets cost $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members.
  • The N.C. Forest Service and Cooperative Extension, will host a timber marketing workshop from 7-9 p.m., Aug. 29, at the Granville County Expo Center 4185 U.S. 15, Oxford. Woodland owners will get advice from experts on how to navigate the process successfully. This is a free event, but registration is requested.   • The American Red Cross, will sponsor a series of blood drives during the month of August. They include:
    • 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16 at the Roxboro Police Department, 109 Lamar St.
    • 2:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Bethel Hill Baptist Church, 201 Old U.S.-501
    • 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 31 at Furniture Mart, 740 N. Madison Blvd.
  • The Healthy Personians, Substance Use Disorder Subcommittee will host the fourth annual Substance Misuse Summit Sept. 18. Events will begin with the Good Morning Coffee Hour from 8-9 a.m at Golden Corral. Cost is $2. No pre-registration is required. From 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. training for substance abuse training will be provided at the Person County Office Building auditorium. From 12-1 p.m., lunch will be served at the auditorium followed by a presentation from Mary Gillett, tobacco manager for the Department of Health and Human Services’ Division 5, who will discuss the rise in popularity of vaping.   • AA Champions Group, meets at New Brook United Methodist Church, 267 Old Durham Road, at noon Tuesdays and Fridays; at 8 p.m. Wednesday; and at 1 p.m. Saturdays. Person County Al-Anon, meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Long Memorial United Methodist Church in Roxboro.
  • The NA Homegroup of Roxboro, meets several times each week in the Parrish House of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 422 N. Main St., Roxboro. Meetings are held from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Mondays; 12 – 1:15 p.m. on Wednesdays; 1 – 2 p.m. on Saturdays; and 7 – 8 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 336-583-7848.
