St. Paddy’s Day inspires pub crawl

Posted

There’s a little Irish in all of us. At least on St. Patrick’s Day.

And organizers of Uptown Roxboro’s first Pub Crawl are hoping residents will get their Irish up enough to visit the handful of businesses that are taking part in the event which began last night and continues tonight.

La Piazza, Black Creek Brewery, Dalton’s Sports Bar and Grille and 1792 Beer Co. are all taking part in the event.

Visitors to any of the participating businesses will have the opportunity to enjoy drink specials, giveaways, food trucks and music.

On Saturday night, Dalton’s will host a St. Patrick’s Day party beginning at 9:30.

City rules prohibit display or consummation of beer, wine or any other intoxicating liquor in any public place, public street, sidewalk or alley or parking lot owned, leased or maintained by the city or by the state and within city limits.

“Some of the places will kick-off at 4 p.m. like Black Creek Brewery. If you show up around 4:30 or 5 p.m., they will start giving out merchandise,” said Jody Blackwell, Director of PCC Business Development and Entrepreneurship Center.

The idea for the Pub Crawl was sparked after a merchant’s meeting in January.

Blackwell, inspired by New Orleans scenery, reached out to the businesses to create the event with an eye toward getting residents Uptown, sparking interest in the area and doing something different for the community.

“We hope that if it is popular enough we can turn it into an annual event,” said Blackwell.

If nothing else, the pub crawl will give residents a chance to break out their best green wardrobe. After all, we all have a little bit of the Irish in us.
