The Roxboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority held a health expo Saturday March 16th at Piedmont Community College. The day involved many vendors offering health and wellness tips to the attendees as well as free health screenings.
Those involved included Rox Fitness, Lillian Johnson offering nutritional tips, Safe Haven of Person County, Karen McCain offering health screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar checks, and certified health coach Tanya Winbush, owner of Evolve to Live.
The numerous attendees signed in and were entered into a drawing for a door prize. There were various healthy snacks, smoothies and water available as they mixed and mingled visiting each of the vendors. There was an abundance of take-away information that can be used to promote a healthy everyday life.
The sorority’s goal was to provide an opportunity for the community to be educated in an interactive way. They are able to gain knowledge of basic preventive medicine. The health screenings offered them a chance to see where their numbers currently stand and ways they can be improved.
The chapter has had an organized presence in Roxboro since March 28, 1981 and its purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Anita Tapp is currently serving as President of the Roxboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
