Shelby Jean Oliver Gentry Young, 78, of 5929 Dirgie Mine Rd., died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. Born in Person County, Mrs. Young was the daughter of the late Walter Clyde Oliver, Sr. and Mary Walters Oliver. She was preceded in death by her husbands, David N. Gentry, Sr. and Cecil “C.B.” Young; siblings, Walker Clyde Oliver, Jr., Vashti Oliver Compton, J.W. “Jake” Oliver, Sr. and Lawrence Elbert Oliver. Mrs. Young worked in retail at Roses and Peebles. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Young is survived by her children, David N. Gentry, Jr., Samuel “Sammy” D. Gentry and Rachel G. Tuck and husband Timmy, all of Roxboro; two brothers, Pete Oliver and wife Gretchen, of Durham and Curtis Oliver and wife Mary Lou, of Semora; four grandchildren, Elaine Whitt and husband Anthony, Nick Gentry III, Leah Tuck and Joshua Tuck; one great-grandchild, Troy Whitt.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Avery Dalton. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Gentry, Billy Carter, Gary Fox, Burley “Bert” Gentry, Charles “Buck” Saunders, and Charlie Buck Oakley. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
