Sensory-friendly film airs

The Kirby Theater will air its first sensory-friendly movie, Paddington 2, on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 at 2pm. This movie is free to the public.

Many people have challenges with sensory processing, including those on the Autism Spectrum. A simple trip to the theater can be overstimulating and stressful. The sensoryfriendly movie series is being offered to provide community members and their families an inclusive and accepting place to view recently released films.

During the movie, the theater auditorium lights will be on and the sound for the movie will be turned down. The films will not contain ads or trailers, and viewers are welcome to sing along, stand or move about as long as safety is not a concern.

In recognition of dietary needs, movie goers are welcome to bring their preferred snacks from home. As always, popcorn and concessions will be available.

There are four sensory friendly movies planned in this series. In addition to Paddington 2, the series includes Lego Batman on Sunday, Oct. 14, Despicable Me 3 on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 and Tangled on Sunday, April 14, 2019; all at 2 p.m.

Paddington 2 features a bear that settles in with the Brown family. Paddington is a popular member of the community who spreads joy wherever he goes. While shopping Paddington spots a pop-up book in an antique shop that would make the most perfect present for his beloved aunt’s 100th birthday. When a thief steals the prized book, Paddington embarks on an epic quest to unmask the culprit before Aunt Lucy’s big celebration. This is a delightful movie that will charm every one of all ages.
