Richard Lash Jeffrey, age 86, of 189 Evelyn Day Road, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 in Durham Veteran Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 28, 1932 in Mocksville, to Edgar and Elsie Kiger Jeffrey. Mr. Jeffrey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Collins & Aikman for 40 years. He also worked with Joel’s Tree Service after retirement. He was a avid fisherman and loved the great outdoors, gardening, relaxing on the porch at the end of the day, and talking with his neighborhood buddies and friends. He was a wonderful dad and a good provider.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 65 years, Nettelene “Peggy” Day Jeffrey; three children, Amy J. (Douglas) Humphries of Timberlake, Joel Scott Jeffrey of the home and Velvet (Stefan) Crane of Youngsville; three grandchildren, Allison (Drake) Brinkley of Greenville, Billy (Jenny) Humphries of Timberlake, and Jacqueline Jeffrey of Seminole, Florida; step grandson, Skip Lovell of St. Petersburg, Florida and step granddaughter, Stephanie Gentry of Roxboro; one great-grandson, Jax Howard Humphries and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, David Lee Jeffrey; step granddaughter, Stacy Gentry Howard; three brothers, Bobby Jeffrey, Charles Jeffrey and Jerry Jeffrey.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at Timberlake Baptist Church, 3035 Surl- Mt. Tirzah Road, Timberlake, at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Scott Day presiding. All are invited. His cremated remains will be buried at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Timberlake Baptist Church.
