Future Rockets Football Camp set for next week

The Person High School football team will be hosting the Future Rockets Football Camp July 23-24 at the school.

It will run from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and is open to all first through seventh grade youth.

The camp is $25 per participant and includes two days of instruction, a T-shirt and a lunch on July 24.

Registration forms can be picked up at Person High School, Northern and Southern middle schools, any PCS elementary school or at the Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department. Youth football registration underway

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department will be holding registration for its Youth Football League through July 31.

There will be three leagues offered — a pee-wee flag league (5-6) and mite (7-9) and midget (10-12) tackle leagues.

The age cutoff date for each league is Aug. 31, 2019.

The registration fee for the pee wee league is $30 for Person County residents and $45 for non-residents. The registration fee for both tackle leagues is $50 for Person County residents and $75 for non-residents.

There is no weight limit in the mite and midget leagues For the mite league 100-pounds and higher is tackle-on-tackle only. For the midget league, 150-pounds and higher is tackle-on-tackle only.

All mite and midget league players must come by the recreation department to weigh in and be fitted for equipment prior to the registration deadline.

All games will be played on Saturdays.

Prospective Coaches are asked to come by the recreation department to fill out a volunteer application/background check form.

The season will start Sept. 14.

Youth soccer registration is underway

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department will be holding registration for its Youth Soccer Leagues through July 24.

Leagues includes are 5-6 coed, 7-8 coed, 9-10 girls, 11-13 girls, 9-12 boys.

Players must be 5-years-old and cannot be 14-years-old by Aug. 31, 2019.

Entry fee is $35 per Person County resident and $52.50 for non-residents. The fee includes a team jersey and socks and refunds are not available after the registration deadline.

All games will be played at Huck Sansbury Field.

Prospective coaches are asked to come by the recreation department to fill out a volunteer application/background check form.

All parents are asked to come by the recreation department no later than 5 p.m. July 24 to sign their child up for soccer. Online registration is available at www.personcounty.net

The season will start Sept. 3.

Roxboro Invitational tennis tournament set for August

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department will be hosting the 41st Annual Roxboro Invitational tennis tournament beginning Aug. 9-11.

The tournament will be held at the Huck Sansbury and Person High School courts. Registration deadline is Friday, July 27 for in-person registrations and Sunday, July 29 for online registrations. Registration fees are $25 per singles event, $30 per team for doubles event and includes a T-shirt.

Divisions will include men’s and women’s open singles and doubles, men’s and women’s 50-and-over singles and doubles, There will also be an open mixed doubles division and a 50-and-over mixed doubles division. Junior divisions include 18-and-under, 13-and-under, boys and girls. Juniors may play in the adult open divisions.

All matches consist of two out of three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of third set. Draws will be limited to first 16 entrants in singles and the first eight teams in doubles with a limit of three events per entrant, and two singles tournaments.

Awards will be given to the winners, finalists and consolation winners in each division.

Although this is not a sanctioned tournament and USTA membership is not required, USTA rules will govern all play.
