The Roxboro Community School softball team is off to a 3-0 start to the season after victories last week against Franklin Academy and Orange.
The Bulldogs opened up North Central Athletic Conference play with a 21-0 three-inning rout of Franklin Academy Wednesday and followed that with a 9-2 win against Orange Friday.
RCS is ranked sixth in the first MaxPreps Adjusted 1A Rankings, released by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association each Monday.
The Bulldogs got off to a fast start with four runs in the first inning against Franklin Academy and put the game away with 11 more in the second.
RCS pounded out 15 hits in the three-inning win, with Maci Clark leading the way going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and scoring three times.
Kelcey Mangum reached base in all four plate appearances and had three hits, including a double. The freshman shortstop scored four times and had an RBI.
Karsin Lee finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs. The senior tossed a no-hitter and recorded eight of the game’s nine outs by strikeout.
Madison Adams tripled and drove in two, while Zoe Russell homered and finished with three RBIs. Ashton Evans had three hits, including a double and drove in two. Jailyn Mattos chipped in two RBIs.
RCS broke through a scoreless game against Orange with a four-run third inning. Orange cut the lead in the half on a two-run single by Grace Andrews in the fourth, but the Bulldogs answered right back with five more in the bottom of the inning.
Lee picked up the win after four strong innings of work. The senior surrendered just two earned runs on three hits, two by Andrews, and struck out seven.
Adams earned the save after three perfect innings of relief, with four strikeouts. The sophomore also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Karter Hawkins was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Mangum and Clark had two hits each. Mattos and Evans each had hits, while Russell homered and drove in two.
The Bulldogs faced Oxford Prep Tuesday, but the result was unavailable at press time.
They get their biggest test of the season today when they host 3A power Eastern Alamance. The Eagles head into the week at 2-0 and are the top team in the initial MaxPreps Adjusted 3A Rankings of the season.
