The Roxboro Community School girls’ basketball team got off to a fast start and never let up in its 62-22 rout of winless Oxford Prep Tuesday on in its regular season home finale.
The Bulldogs closed the first quarter on a 15-3 spurt capped off by Zoe Russell’s bucket at the buzzer.
RCS continued the onslaught with an 11-1 run during the first five minutes of the second quarter and held the Griffins without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes.
The Bulldogs led by at least 20 points for the remainder of the game.
Russell led a balanced RCS offensive attack with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mackenzie Oliver finished with 11 points five boards, while Paige Melton chipped in 10 points and four boards.
Nyah Daye poured in 10 points with eight rebounds, while Madison Dunkley added eight points to go along with six rebound and three assists.
Georgia Carver scored seven points, while Trinity Cheek wrapped up the scoring with four points.
RCS ended its week with a 39-30 loss at Henderson Collegiate.
The Bulldogs head into the final week of the regular season at 5-12 overall and 5-6 in the North Central Athletic Conference. They are currently in a tie with Voyager Academy for fourth place in the NCAC and will meet Tuesday in Durham. RCS will finish off its regular season Wednesday at Falls Lake Academy.
Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. tipoffs.
