Producers can take part in hemp field tour

There will be a hemp field tour at the Thomas Whitt farm, 852 Blackard Road, Roxboro, from 9:30 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The agenda includes hemp seed issues, hemp certification, hemp fertility, drones/weather stations, and hemp extraction.

To get there, take NC 157 South from Roxboro, turn left on Flat River Church Road then turn right on Blackard Road. Take the first gravel road to the right. Look for tour signs.

Contact the NC Cooperative Extension Person County Center at 336-599-1195 to RSVP. Lunch will be provided for anyone that pre-registers by Sept. 12.

Pesticide training

Private applicators pesticide training will be offered from 5-9 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the NC Cooperative Extension Granville County Center at 125 Oxford Outer Loop, Oxford. The training will include categories V, N, D, O and X. The Safety V training is from 5-7 p.m., and the N,D,O and X training is from 7-9 p.m. For more information, call Gary Cross at 336-599-1195.

Free horticulture classes

Free horticulture classes are being offered from August through November. The classes will be held at the NC Cooperative Extension Person County Center located at 304 S. Morgan St., Roxboro. All classes will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Classes scheduled are as follows:

Aug. 27 – Diagnostics: Disease and Insects – Diagnosing the problem is the first step in solving any plant issue. This program will include what to look for when determining what is wrong with your plant. Find out which treatment is best to solve the issue that is affecting your plant.

Sept. 3 – Basic Landscape Design Principles – Learn the basic steps of how to design your landscape in order to get the best use out of the space you have. This program will help understand some of the variables to consider when landscaping your yard.

Sept. 24 – Home Fruit Gardening – Learn how to keep home gardening from being so frustrating. Discussions will include what issues to look for in different crops and what fruit crops perform better in this area.

Nov. 19 – Pruning Ornamental and Fruiting Plants – This program will give you the knowledge to be more comfortable pruning your plants. How, when, where, and why to prune your plants will be discussed in this program.
