Power outages reported as tropical storm passes


More than 1,200 power outages were reported in Person County Thursday afternoon due to remnants of Tropical Storm Zeta.

Duke Energy reported about 1,200 outages in the Person County area as of 2 p.m., and more than 9,000 outages were reported across the Carolinas.

According to the Duke Energy online map, reported outages surfaced around 11 a.m. locally.

Many of the county outages did not have an estimated restoration time.

Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation reported 58 outages in Person County.

The Raleigh Regional Airport at Person County reported wind gusts as high as 36 mph around 11 a.m., the most recent update available.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Zeta is now a post-tropical cyclone currently over Virginia and should be back over the Atlantic Ocean around 8 p.m. Thursday.
