Person High School to offer youth camps

Little Rocks Baseball Camp set for June
17-20

The Person High School baseball team will be hosting its annual Little Rocks Baseball Camp June 17-20 at Rocket Park.

The camp will last from 8-11 a.m. and is open to all first through seventh grade youth.

Registration is $50 per camper and includes a Person baseball T-shirt.

Future Rockets Football Camp set for July 23-24

The Person High School football team will be hosting the Future Rockets Football Camp July 23-24 at the school.

It will run from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and is open to all first through seventh grade youth.

The camp is $25 per participant and includes two days of instruction, a T-shirt and a lunch on July 24.

Registration forms can be picked up at Person High School, Northern and Southern middle schools, any PCS elementary school or at the Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department. Youth tennis lessons scheduled for June and July

The Person County Recreation, Arts, and Parks Department will be hosting June Try Tennis lessons, to be taught by Tyler Wade, coach of the Person High School girls’ tennis team. Lessons will be taught at the Huck Sansbury tennis courts. Class dates are June 17, 19, 24, 26, July 8, and 10.

For ages 6-8, class time is 9-9:45 a.m. each date, while participants age 9-12 will have their class from 10-10:45 a.m.

Each participant will receive a tennis racket and tennis towel included in the registration fee.

The registration fee for these classes is $40 for Person County residents and $60 for non-residents. There are no refunds after the registration deadline.

The registration deadline for this session of lessons is June 12 with a $5 fee for late registration.

Youth football registration underway

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department will be holding registration for its Youth Football League through July 31.

There will be three leagues offered — a pee-wee flag league (5-6) and mite (7-9) and midget (10-12) tackle leagues.

The age cutoff date for each league is Aug. 31, 2019.

The registration fee for the pee wee league is $30 for Person County residents and $45 for non-residents. The registration fee for both tackle leagues is $50 for Person County residents and $75 for non-residents.

There is no weight limit in the mite and midget leagues For the mite league 100-pounds and higher is tackle-on-tackle only. For the midget league, 150-pounds and higher is tackle-on-tackle only.

All mite and midget league players must come by the recreation department to weigh in and be fitted for equipment prior to the registration deadline.

All games will be played on Saturdays.

Prospective Coaches are asked to come by the recreation department to fill out a volunteer application/background check form.

Women’s fall volleyball league signups underway

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department is having registration for a women’s volleyball league through July 9.

Entry fee is $260 per team. Coaches are asked to come by the recreation department to register their team and pick up necessary roster information forms.

The season includes a 10-game regular season and a double-elimination tournament.

There will be a coaches’ meeting scheduled at the Huck Sansbury offices and each team is required to have a representative present.

The season is scheduled to start to Aug. 5.

Game nights will depend on the number of teams, with contests being held at Huck Sansbury Gym and possibly Olive Hill Gym.

Adult co-rec softball league registration continues

The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department will be offering team registration for its adult co-rec softball league through July 9

Coaches are asked to come by the recreation department to register their team and pick up necessary roster information forms. Players must be 16-years old by Oct. 16, 2019.

A mandatory coaches meeting will be July 10 at 7 p.m. at the recreation department. Basic rules will be discussed at that time.

The season is scheduled to start Aug. 5.

Rosters, player contract forms and entry fee deadline for all teams will be July 11 and teams will not be considered in the league until all paperwork and entry fee 0has been received. Entry Fee is $445 and includes a 10-game regular season schedule with a double-elimination tournament or 12-game regular season with a single-elimination tournament. Any non-residents on the team will need to pay the non-resident fee of $30.

Games will be held at Hurdle Mills with some games needing to be played at Allensville, Sansbury, and Olive Hill. Games nights will be decided on at the coaches’ meeting.

Weaver’s Wrestling Camp set for July 15-18

Southern Middle School wrestling coach Jarrett Weaver is hosting his annual wrestling camp July 15-18.

The camp will take place from 12-4 p.m. at the Southern Middle School gym and is for rising fourth graders through high school seniors. Boys and girls are welcomed and no experience is necessary. Registration ends the Monday before camp starts at 3 p.m.
