For the first time in five days, Person County health officials reported new cases of coronavirus Saturday afternoon. And, the health department's report included the second largest number of cases confirmed in a single day.
Health officials said three new cases push the total number of confirmed cases to 37. While the total number of cases continues to grow, the number of people remaining quarantined in isolation shrinks. Only seven of the 37 cases remain in isolation according to Person County Health Director Janet Clayton. No patients are currently hospitalized.
There has been one death.
The increase in positive cases is not totally unexpected as the state ramps up its effort to test people for the coronavirus. Statewide yesterday, there were more than 1,100 positive cases reported.
The cases come, however, just as the business community tries to return to normal. Gov. Roy Cooper's order giving many businesses the opportunity to open went into effect Friday at 5 p.m.
