Person County baseball makes noise at state

When the Person County 8U All-Star baseball team left Wilson the first time, it wasn’t sure it would be making a return appearance to the state tournament.

A few days later the team found out that its third place appearance in the district tournament would be good enough to earn a shot at a state title.

The boys made quite the impression on the return trip.

The Person County 8U All-Stars rolled through pool play with a perfect 3-0 record before having its season come to an end with a 13-12 loss to Northwest Forsyth in the bracket round of the North Carolina Little League baseball tournament this weekend in Wilson.

Person County opened pool play with an 11-3 win against Coul Oak Friday and followed that with wins Saturday. They edged King, 3-2 and capped off a perfect record in pool action with an 11-3 rout of Havelock.

Person County earned a three seed for bracket play Sunday, but were forced to play shorthanded because of illness in the game against Northwest Forsyth.

Northwest raced out to a 13-3 lead and had to hold off a furious late rally to escape with the win.
