8U All-Stars going for state title this weekend

The Person County 8U All-Star softball team will be looking to bring home a banner when it heads back to Salisbury this weekend.

The local All-Stars will be competing in the four-team bracket play beginning today in the North Carolina Little League 8U State Softball championship at Salisbury Community Park.

Person County will play today at 5 p.m. against the champion from Pool B. If Person County wins, it will play for the state championship Sunday at 12 p.m. A loss today will put the PCLL All-Stars in the third-place game which will begin at 10 a.m.

Person County advanced through pool play with a 1-1 record, highlighted by a come-from-behind 15-11 victory against Lake Norman last Saturday.

Lake Norman led by five runs after two innings before PCLL started chipping away at the advantage. They ended last weekend with a hard-fought 5-3 loss to host Rowan County. The teams could potentially meet again Sunday for the state championship.

Members of the team include: Allary Bradsher, Kyndall Barts, Alyssa Brady, Remington Chandler, Baylee Dixon, Karsyn Dodson, Lyndley Gentry, Peyton Hurdle, Lillyan Powell, Lexi Powell, Kyleigh Scott.
