The Person County Alumni Chapter of North Carolina A&T State University will holds its annual Blue and Gold Ball “ An Evening of Celebrating Aggie Pride….Because They Sat Down” at 7 p.m., Friday April 26, 2019 at the Homestead Festival House.
This year is special to the alumni chapter as it celebrates the A&T Four who started the sit-in movement on Feb. 1, 1960 by refusing to give up their seats at the Woolworth’s lunch counter. Their act sparked fire to college students, not only in the Greensboro area but throughout the entire country, as other HBCU’s began to have sit-ins after hearing of their feat. Several Aggies from the Person County area also took part in the sit-in movement. Some were arrested for fighting for the rights of equality.
This year the chapter has the honor of having Franklin McCain Jr. the son of one of the A&T four (Franklin McCain Sr.) serve as master of ceremonies and Franklin “Mac” McCain III, his grandson, will be the guest speaker. Mac McCain also is making history for himself at A&T playing with the Aggie football team and with the team he has won back to back HBCU National Football Championships. During his freshmen year he was nicknamed “The Freshmen Sensation.” Also, taking place that night will be the crowning of the group’s Lil Mr. and Miss Blue and Gold 2019 and announcement of scholarship recipients.
Tickets for this event may be purchased from any member of the Person County Alumni Chapter.
