Mrs. Paulette Bernice Smith, 62, of 4337 Hurdle Mills Road, departed this life Friday, May 10, 2019 in Duke Regional Hospital. She was a native of Halifax County, Va., but made her home in Roxboro.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy Drumwright.
She is survived by her husband, Richmond Smith of the home; two daughters, Mercedes Amos (Todrea) of Newport News, Va. and Latricia Smith (Chris Sergi) of Orlando, Fla.; one stepson, Maurice Sampson of Yanceyville; five grandchildren: Mercel Smith of Roxboro, Donavyn Thomas of Chicago, Ill., Jase Sergi of Orlando, Fla., Callie Sampson of Durham and Zariah Pope of South Boston, Va.; four sisters: Jackie Britton (Joe) of Durham, Gloria Yarborough of Baltimore, Md., Phyllis Loftis (Andrew) and Delores Hill, both of Roxboro; two brothers: Barry Drumwright of Fuquay-Varina, and Michele Drumwright of Roxboro; and a host of other additional relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 305 Walker St., Roxboro with the Rev. Timothy Dorsey officiating and the Rev. Michael Dunn providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, 128 Meadow Drive, South Boston, Va. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 1 – 6 p.m. with the family present during the last hour from 5 – 6 p.m.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
Her body will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service.
