Nominations sought for Best of Person County

Time is running out to make nominations in the third annual Best of Person County program.

Nominations will be taken through 11:30 p.m., March 2 and the categories included in this year’s Best of Person County include many that voters have seen before, along with a few new ones, such as Best Teacher, Best Smoothie and Best Chef.

In all, readers can nominate businesses and individuals in more than 100 categories across seven themed groups, including Health & Beauty, Eat & Drink, Schools, Local & Community, Home & Garden, Professional Services and Shopping.

Voting will begin at 5 a.m., March 20 and continue through April 10th at 11:30 p.m.

For now, though, the name of the game is to make sure your favorite businesses and people are nominated. Online nominations can be made at

Once on that page, simply scroll down and click on each of the seven group icons to access the categories and make your nominations. Readers can nominate a business or invidual in more than one category.

Each year’s Best of Person County brings a host of deserving winners. Last year, for instance, Beth Townsend was chosen by readers of The Courier-Times as Person’s Best Local Volunteer. Ronnie Epps – known by his Lil Brother nickname to just about everybody in Person County – earned readers’ nod as Best Local Personality. Herbert Brown was chosen as the Best Pastor in Person County, earning that honor for the second time in a row.

The Best of Person County program is an opportunity for readers to nominate people they value and businesses they patronize and trust. In a time when much of the news seems to be bad news, the Best of Person County focuses our attention on the good news that makes Person County the unique place that it is. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to make sure your favorites are included and when the nominations are closed and voting opens, take some – every day if you want to – to cast your vote.
