Nell Crumpton Burch, 98, of Roxboro, died Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Bayard G. Crumpton and Georgiana Rogers Crumpton. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn David Burch; son, Jimmy Hamlet; brothers: Roger, Rob, Berkley and Jack Crumpton; sisters: Billie Carver, Cathryn Clayton, Marjorie Jones, Hallie Crumpton and Linda Oakley.
Mrs. Burch was a longtime member of New Brook United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of UNC Greensboro (formerly W.C. UNC) where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She received a commendation from American Chemical Society of N.C. for teaching chemistry in public schools. She taught at Hurdle Mills, Graham and Roxboro High School and retired from Roxboro High School after teaching for 31 years. She had many hobbies including quilt making, basketry and a love of nature.
Surviving are her son, Robert “Bob” Hamlet of Saluda; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Brooks & White Chapel with the Rev. John Pritchard officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m.
