Person High School’s athletic department has announced that Michael Ferrell will be the new head coach for the girls softball team. Ferrell has plans to revamp the PHS Softball program starting with the JV squad.
Ferrell reveals his goal for the season.
“Goals for the program start with reviving the JV program,” Ferrell said. “We need to generate more interest in the program so we can get more girls in the program. If we can establish a JV program, it will give the underclassmen a chance to get more reps in earlier in the program,” He also mentioned how there is a lot of talent coming to the program in the future which reveals how bright the future of this program will become.”
Ferrell also mentioned how the obvious goal for the upcoming season is to win as many games as possible.
“However, things like that usually take time to accomplish, so this year I just want to establish a culture,” Ferrell said. “I want the girls to buy into the program and take ownership for themselves.”
Ferrell was a little disappointed in the late announcement of being the coach because it then became too late to start much-needed workouts in the fall, but he plans to have workouts once school resumes after Winter Break.
