Matherly completes basic training


Pfc. Nathan Matherly, 20, of Hurdle Mills, graduated from United States Marine Corps Reserve boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on Jan. 3.

He is the son of Barry and Faye Matherly.

Pfc. Matherly completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training as one of 81 recruits in Platoon 3000. While in recruit training, he earned the rank of private first class and he achieved a marksmanship designation as an expert rifleman.

Following 10 days home on leave and seven days as a recruiter’s assistant, he will report to Camp Lejeune for one month of military combat training, followed by 12 weeks training at his Military Occupation Specialty School, where he will study to become a Marine engineer diesel equipment mechanic.
