Mary Dickerson Johnson

Posted

After a life time of Christian service, Mary Dickerson Johnson was met by Jesus Tuesday morning, June 2, 2020. Mary was born June 5, 1932. Her life was a true testament of kindness and positive living to everyone who knew her.
She graduated from Bethel Hill High School in 1951 and married Joseph T. Johnson in 1955. He survives her today at Roxboro Nursing Home. Mary Johnson was a life time member of Providence Baptist Church. She served faithfully in the nursery, WMU, and choir. The mothers and babies were delighted to have Mary love them, and as children grew up and had children, Mary saw families blessed.
Mary spent 20 plus years working at Sears where she retired. She worked many years with coworker Tammy Pulliam who became a life long friend.
Although Mary never had children, she adored children and was a mother to every child she knew.
Mary is survived by her sister Maxine Call, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Dickerson (George) and Dorothy Dickerson (Bert). A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pattie Lula Chandler and Riley Elbert Dickerson. Her sisters Thelma Morton of Franklinton, NC and Pattie Mae Mabe of Winston Salem, NC and brothers, Earl, Bert, and George Dickerson all of Roxboro.
As we say goodbye to Mary we are reminded that when she was born everyone was happy to see her come and as she has left everyone is sad to see her go. A real testament to a life well lived.
Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, June 5, 2020 at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (1-2 PM).
Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 1319 Virgilina Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573.
Condolences may be sent to www.brooksandwhite.com.
