Ashlyn Oakley, member of Person County Troop 172, earned her Girl Scout Silver Award in February. Her Silver Award project focused on helping children develop social skills, encourage creativity and offer comfort through pretend play.
She gathered more than 40 gently-used stuffed animals from friends, family and troop members, then clean and sterilized them. At an event held in December, Oakley distributed the collection to children in the H.E.A.R.T.S. program in Durham. Amanda McKeithan and Tameka Brown worked with the H.E.A.R.T.S. program and allowed Oakley to work with their organization. For more information on Girl Scouts, visit www.nccoastalpines.org.
