Cole’s Pharmacy at 117 N. Main St. will host a book signing event for Roxboro native Sonja Blanks Vaughan’s new book on Thursday, Jan. 10 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
“At the very least, by reading my story, you will know that you are never alone.”
Those words are part of Vaughan’s introduction to her newly-published book, Temporary Lumps: A journey of faith, perseverance and triumph. The book features a compilation of blog posts by Vaughan during her journey battling breast cancer.
Free coffee and drinks will be available during the signing.
“What an honor to have James Carver and the folks at Cole’s Pharmacy extend an offer to have my first book signing event,” Vaughan said. “They have supported me every step of the way and I am so thankful to have them in my corner.”
Vaughan admits that her book is “not your typical book.
“In 2017, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and diagnosis in hand ... I decided to take to the internet and create a blog to keep friends and family in the loop,” Vaughan wrote in the book’s introduction. “This book is a compilation of a year of my blog - unedited and unrefined.”
Vaughan said she began her journey to defeat breast cancer with many unknowns and that she documented those along the way.
“With cancer, God had presented me with a wonderful opportunity to share the good, the bad and the ugly of my chaos with friends and strangers, who may be having similar struggles via the ‘interweb.’ Truly, in the midst of my chaos, there became an awesome opportunity to share my faith, my fight and my story,” Vaughan wrote. “It is my prayer that this compilation will help you through your cancer story, whether it’s you or someone you love going through it.
“By putting my blog into a book form, it’s my hope that you can take it wherever you go,” Vaughan added, “You will likely be spending many hours in doctors’ offices, and perhaps this blog-book can help you pass the time in a way that can lift your spirits.”
Vaughan’s book promises to encourage, enlighten and entertain readers.
“And oh - if you laugh a little along the way? Bonus!” Vaughan wrote.
