TIMBERLAKE — Linda Hope Matthews passed with peace and grace in her sleep on June 27, with her family and friends at her side. She is survived by son Brian Faircloth (Joan) of Roxboro, son Nick Raynor of Minnesota; grandchildren Madeline Lang, Alex Faircloth and Tristan Raynor, cousin Blanche as well as her beloved cat, Hurley. She was predeceased by her father Owen Fletcher Matthews and mother Ruby Pearl Fowler as well as her loving cats Sam and Roscoe.
Linda was born in Buies Creek in 1952, attended Campbell University and moved to Durham as a young woman to begin her career in medical records at Duke University Health System to which she remained employed for 48 years until her retirement in 2020. She also threw her energies into raising her two children as a single, independent mother.
Open to all neighbors, her kitchen was never closed and she was always happy to provide anyone who stopped by with a glass of cold sweet tea and laughter. After independently purchasing her own home in 2005, she became a garden artisan and took great pride in working tirelessly to create beautiful works of art in her yard while listening to her favorite band Bon Jovi.
She also loved to go to the local flea market weekly to pick out new decor and knick knacks as interior decorating was another hobby she enjoyed. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and a kind, giving friend who loved to laugh and whose greatest passion was helping others.
Per her wishes, a small, private service will be held with family and friends.
