Lawrence Edward Dixon, with his family by his side, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. He was born January 17, 1936 to the late Thomas Jefferson Dixon and Minnie Adell Gentry Dixon Huff.
He was married for 61 years to the love of his life, Shelby Jean Shields Dixon, who passed away in September, 2018. He was the loving father to three children, Russell Dixon (Ronnie), Lisa Dixon Davis (Richard) and Anita Dixon. He cherished his grandchildren, Julie Davis Henderson (Jamie) and Kendall Davis (Ashley).
He is also survived by his sisters: Doris Russ (Vance), Shirley Dean and Marjorie Melton, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Otis Dixon, Junior Dixon and Faye Dixon.
Lawrence was employed by Collins & Aikman until the age of retirement. He loved living on the farm, raising tobacco and livestock on the same soil where he lived all his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his special family camping trips at Kerr Lake. He was a member and deacon of Sharon Baptist Church where he served on various committees.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Victor Blackwell at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at Sharon Baptist Church, 6746 Goshen Road, Oxford. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. just prior to the service, and other times at the home located at 7128 Lester McFarland Road, Oxford.
