Katie “Sue” Walker, 78, of Roxboro, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2020. She was born Sept.14, 1942, the daughter of the late Rosa Belle Terry Walker and Marvin Colon Walker of Hillsborough. Sue was also preceded in death by her beloved eldest son James Bryan Wade.
Sue graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1960 and was voted senior superlative “prettiest” by classmates. She was a devoted mother and beautiful woman inside and out. Her love of music and strong Christian faith led her to sing in the New Sharon United Methodist Church choir in Hillsborough for more than a decade.
After moving to Roxboro in 2006, she became a devoted congregant of Antioch Baptist Church in Timberlake. In 2012, after a gratifying 49-year career, Sue retired from the Duke Health System as Service Access Manager of the North Duke Street Clinic in Durham.
Sue is survived by beloved son Jason Brandt Wade of Roxboro and granddaughter Kennedy Erin Wade. Also surviving are two brothers: Harold Winfred Walker and Marvin Wayne Walker (both of Hillsborough); three sisters: Gayle Walker Long (of Roxboro), Ann Walker Glenn (of Hillsborough) and Bonnie Carol Walker (of Hendersonville).
Surviving nieces and nephews: Cindy Ciociola, Kimberly Long Mitchell, Teresa Long Hall, Devin Walker Compton, Carly Walker Faulkenbury, and Harold Walker Jr. Surviving grand nieces and nephews: Amanda Walker Martin and son Tristan, Abigail Walker, Victoria Parham, Bryan Parham, Carter Hall, and Emerson Compton.
A celebration of life will be held at Antioch Baptist Church at a date yet to be decided. Details will be forthcoming via family members. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate donations to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 185, Timberlake N.C. 27583.
