Jimmy Russell Rogers Sr., 85, of Roxboro, died Monday, April 6, 2020. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Lemuel Thomas Rogers and Ruby Blalock Rogers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Humphries and his sister, Clara Rogers. Mr. Rogers was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Rogers retired from the tobacco market after many years of employment. In 1987 he received an award for best ticket marketer from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, USA. He was also a member of the Tobacco Ticket Markers Association. Jimmy was a lifetime member of the Roxboro Elks BPO Lodge #2005 and was a founding-member of the Roxboro Jaycees. He enjoyed gardening and being able to share his vegetables with others. Mr. Rogers’ greatest joy was his family.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Jane Moore Rogers of the home; five children, Russell Rogers (Ann Hughes) of Roxboro, Ray Rogers (Susan) of Bushy Fork, Sara Rogers Humphries of Roxboro, Susan Rogers Parker (Stuart) of Roxboro and Betsy Rogers Perkins (Ray) of Roxboro; one brother, Burnell Rogers (June) of Bushy Fork; nine grandchildren, Jimmy Ray Perkins III (Katie), Jessica H. Whitt, Rusty Rogers, Abbey Loftis (Chase), Whitney Malpass (Taylor), Morgan Clayton (Dustin), Brett Perkins, Clark Rogers and Kelsey Perkins; seven great-grandchildren, Faith Whitt, Layla Whitt, Abel Loftis, Charleigh Loftis, Layne Perkins, Piper Perkins and John Reynolds Malpass.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the Burchwood Cemetery with the Rev. Everett Gardner officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Due to the Executive Order regarding the COVID-19, the attendance will be limited to 50 people.
