DURHAM — Janet Moss Herndon, 80, passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2021 at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born in Granville County, the daughter of the late John C. Moss and Alma Pitchford Moss. Mrs. Herndon was predeceased by her husband, Clayborne Lee Herndon, Sr.; siblings, Margie Eakes, Reeves Moss, Betty Lou Murray, Sally Richard, and Rowena Allen.
Mrs. Herndon loved spending time with her whole family, cooking, working in her yard with her flowers, and listening to country music. She was a member of Calvary Free Will Baptist Church and retired from IBM. She loved her dog, Charlie.
Mrs. Herndon is survived by her son, Clayborne L. Herndon, Jr. (Nancy); sisters, Sara Goodman, Jennie Sue Culp, Dorothy Munn, Jean Englebright; grandchildren, Heather Vanderbunt, Brittany Herndon-Pendergraft (David); great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Emersyn Pendergraft.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 23 at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Pastor Mike Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
