ROUGEMONT — James Mervyn Day, 87, formerly of Rougemont, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Ivey Day and Eleanor Clayton Day. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Delores Day Gooch.
Mr. Day served in the United States Army. He retired from Collins & Aikman. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Person County Bowling League for over 40 years. He was an avid Tar Heel fan. Mr. Day was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Duke Day of Rougemont; stepdaughter, Carlene Harris (Donny) of Timberlake; brother, Barry Lane Day of Yanceyville; three step-grandchildren: Dustin Harris, Jayme Welch (Rhonda) and David Harris (Kristie); ten step great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Chambers officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (11 a.m.-12 p.m.).
