Roxboro Little Theater’s adaptation of Willy Wonka will hit the stage Nov. 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Kirby Theater. This show is a part of the 2018-2019 Performing Arts Series season at the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex.
Willy Wonka is the delicious adventure experienced by Charlie Bucket, a poor but hopeful boy seeking one of five coveted golden tickets, that will send him on a tour of Willy Wonka’s sensational and bizarre chocolate factory, filled with hundreds of peculiar candy rooms and the mysterious oompa loompas.
Leah Anderson who plays young Charlie Bucket, says the play has helped her artistically.
“This is an incredible experience working with such wonderful people with different ages and backgrounds. I feel like I have grown as an actor working with such an amazing cast and crew,” Anderson said.
Willy Wonka also has sensational musical numbers as the children get their golden tickets and tour the factory. “The music of the show is as varied as the characters, and supports the magical and often quirky world of Willy
Wonka. It can be ethereal, sentimental, joyful, and hysterical. There is even oompah and tango music! And, of course, there is the iconic song, The Candy Man, that always seems to make the heart smile.” said Mike Moose, the music director for Willy Wonka.
Willy Wonka, played by Victor Torain, gives us his thoughts about being in this production saying “This show is going to be amazing!! I am glad my friends talked me into auditioning for Willy. This experience has opened my eyes to the possibilities that somehow now seem endless. The children are some of the most talented kids I’ve ever worked with and the adult cast has continuously taught me so much about acting. I’m so glad to be portraying Willy Wonka...especially since I’m dedicating it to my “Goddaughter” Jayla Rae Allen.”
Ray Pearce, the director of Willy Wonka says the play presents several theatrical challenges.
“It is always my hope that the cast and the audience enjoy their experience. Willy Wonka has been challenging at times due to the size of the cast as well as making it as real to life as possible… however it has been a joy. I can say that the cast has worked hard and I am very proud of each of them. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a night of laughter and pure imagination”
Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory, lights up the Kirby stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.
