Bulldog netters make it two in a row against PHS


The Roxboro Community School tennis team finished its first week of the season at 2-0 with a victory against Person Wednesday.

The Bulldogs downed Person, 9-0.

Sarah Vetti rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kaitlyn Wrenn in the top-seeded singles match, while Olivia Townsend downed Alora Horton, 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Reagan Anderson blanked Lyndley Whitfield, 6-0, 6-0 in the third-seeded match, while fourth-seed Jessica Holeman rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Julie Taylor.

Fifth-seed Emily Rogers defeated Sammie Jo Adcock, 6-0, 6-0 and sixth-seed Allyshea Oliver rallied for a 4-6, 6-1 (10-8) win over Kalei Stephens.

The Bulldogs swept all three doubles matches, starting off with Townsend and Anderson’s 8-0 win over Wrenn and Horton in the top flight.

Vetti and Rogers followed with an 8-0 victory against Whitfield and Adcock, while Julia Stovall and Grace Denny capped off the match with a 6-4 victory over Taylor and Stephens in a rain-shortened match.
