Danny Norwood Oakley, 69, of 1234 Moriah Rd., Rougemont, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020. Born in Person County, Mr. Oakley was the son of the late Johnnie Thelbert and Mary Earl Gentry Oakley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace Ingle and John “Butch” Ingle.
Mr. Oakley farmed tobacco and was the co-owner of Oakley’s Automotive. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed pontooning at the river. Mr. Oakley was a founding member of the Moriah Volunteer Fire Department and was its first chief. He enjoyed listening to beach music.
Mr. Oakley is survived by his wife, Janet Lunsford Oakley; two children, Douglas Norwood Oakley and Joy Oakley Brown, both of Rougemont; two brothers, Dennis Oakley and wife Margie and Ted Oakley and wife Kathy, all of Rougemont; one grandchild, Hunter Oakley Brown.
The family received friends Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020 at the Brooks and White Funeral Home and at other times at the home. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
