In its most recent weekly update, the Person County Health Department reported record numbers of new cases and hospitalizations.
In the Thursday, Dec. 10 weekly update, the health department reported 154 cases over the previous week, the first time the county has passed the century mark.
The new cases took the county’s total case count to 1,193 since March.
Person County also hit a record number of hospitalizations with eight.
Another death took the county’s total to 15.
As of Wednesday, the NCDHHS dashboard shows 1,322 total cases in the county, 129 since the last county-level update and marking two straight weeks with over 100 new cases.
The dashboard also shows two additional deaths, taking the county’s total to 17 and tying the Dec. 3 update for most deaths in a week.
In a separate release, the health department said it will no longer be able to produce the weekly report as it must handle a significant increase in positive cases and case investigations; subsequent identification of close contacts and contact tracing; compiling data for reports; and vaccination planning efforts with a limited staff and directed the public to the NCDHHS dashboard.
The county will continue to release a graph showing the weekly percentage positivity rate.
The health department says the report is expected to be released toward the end of each week.
