Calvin Gilmer McMillan, known to many as “Mr.Mac”, 91, of Roxboro, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. Born in Surry County, he was the son of the late William Carlos McMillan and Ilabell Draughn McMillan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, “the one who finally roped him,” Virginia Olena Mabe McMillan, as prophesied in his yearbook; three brothers: Howard, Jimmy and Roger McMillan.
“Mac” graduated from Goldston High School where he was the president of his freshman class and later the treasurer of his senior class. He served in the United States Navy Reserve. Mr. Mac worked for Sears for over 40 years, he worked in several stores including the Greensboro, Rockingham and Roxboro where he was the manager and later retired. “Mac” was a Baptist all of his life and was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church. While living in Roxboro, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club and the antique car club.
Mr. Mac lived his life by his favorite quote from his high school yearbook: “Tis only noble to be good.”
Surviving are two daughters: Linda Margolis, of Durham and Jill Pollock and husband Scott, of Raleigh; two siblings, Bobby McMillan of Siler City and Fairbell Pigford of Goldston; six grandchildren: Jamie Ross, Rob Pollock, Carlie Salemme, Virginia Bledsole, Mary Margaret Wise and Jaclyn Margolis; and seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Ross, Sullivan Salemne, Banks Bledsole, Foster Bledsole, Palmer Ross, Robert Scott Pollock IV and Levi Salemme.
A private memorial service will be held.
