The Roxboro Community School boys’ basketball team fell to Bartlett Yancey, 74-72 in its first game in three weeks after the Christmas break.
The Bulldogs slipped to 3-8 on the season heading into Tuesday’s North Central Conference game against Vance Charter. Results from that game were unavailable at press time, but a story and pictures are available at personcountylife.com.
RCS senior Dylan Jones hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 72-72 with 10 seconds to play. The Bucs put the game away with a putback at the buzzer after three offensive rebounds.
Nasir Stokes led the Bulldogs with 22 points and hit four 3-pointers, two in the fourth quarter. Jones poured in 21 points and eight rebounds with 14 points coming in the second half.
Bryson Pleasant finished with nine points and 11 boards, while J.R. Paylor added nine points with seven rebounds.
Christian Gwynn carried the Bucs with 32 points and nine rebounds.
RCS will be back in action Friday when it travels to Oxford Prep.
Bulldog girls pull away
The Roxboro Community School girls basketball team pulled away from Bartlett Yancey in the final minutes to win 46-37 in a non-conference game last Friday at home.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-6 on the season in their first game after the Christmas break. The Bucs trailed 28-19 at the half but pulled to within a point going into the fourth quarter, but were held to just three points in the final frame.
RCS senior guard Georgia Carver put the game away by hitting two free throws in with 42 seconds to play. Madison Dunkley finished with a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six steals.
Zoe Russell poured in 12 points with 10 boards,while Paige Melton added six points. Carver and Mackenzie Oliver rounded out the scoring with four points each.
