Mrs. Blanche B. Clay, 87, of 414 Woodsdale Road, Roxboro, departed this life Sunday, January 12, 2020. She was a native of Person County and a member of Prospect Hill Baptist Church.
She attended the local schools in Person County, graduated from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, and taught for 31 years as an elementary school teacher in the Person County School System.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clem Clay; her parents, Isaac and Lucy Thomas Bowman; two brothers, Ezra and Ike Bowman; and one sister, Roxie Bowman Hughes.
She is survived by one son, Gregory Clay of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Clementine Talley of Durham and Amethia Clay of Raleigh; two grandsons, Robert Talley, Jr. of Winston-Salem and Clay Talley of Durham; one sister, Reva Parham of Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Williams of Auburn, Ala. and Shirley Clay of Toledo, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Paul Hughes of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, friends and acquaintances.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, Jan. 17, at Prospect Hill Baptist Church, 301 Bethel Hill School Road, Roxboro, with the Rev. George Harris, Jr., Pastor, providing the eulogy and the Rev. Ronald Obie, Associate Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay Family Cemetery, Allen Chapel AM.E. Church, 145 Allen Chapel Church Road, Roxboro. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with the family present during the last hour from 5-6 p.m.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
