Betty Lou Anderson Long, 80, of Prospect Hill passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 after courageously battling a number of major health challenges in recent years. Born in Caswell County to the late Ernest and Catherine Briggs Anderson, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 60 years, A.C. Long Jr.; along with siblings Shelby Anderson Oakley and Jerry Anderson.
A homemaker and a woman of the soil, Betty Lou worked alongside A.C. on the farm and provided a nurturing environment for her family at home.
Affectionately known as Mama Betty Lou, she was a mother figure to many. Her home was a lunchtime haven to those who stopped at her door. Betty Lou’s table was her passion knowing that if she cooked it, they would come.
Young at heart and with a sense of humor and hint of mischief, Betty Lou related to all generations, endearing her especially to her grandchildren who were often the target of her antics.
At the end of the day, her greatest gift was her unwavering love for her family and friends, her church and her community.
A long-time active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Prospect Hill, Betty Lou served in many church capacities including pianist, council secretary, member of the United Methodist Women and various other positions.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Daniel and husband George of Blanch; two sons, Stevie Long and wife Jane of Prospect Hill, and Stacey Long and wife Susan of Hillsborough; five grandchildren, Jacob and wife Katie, Taylor and husband Ben, Leah, Sarah and Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Benny, George and Emerson; brothers-in-law Wilbur Oakley and Franklin Rudd, sister-in-law Mabel Owen; and caregivers Gwen Byrd and Cathy Mcmillan.
At this difficult time, the family requests that friends reach out remotely as much as possible to minimize in-person visits for the sake of everyone’s health.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday at Brooks & White Funeral Home in Roxboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o treasurer Bruce Pleasant, 1268 Painter Road, Prospect Hill, NC 27314 or Cooper Cemetery, c/o treasurer Tim Yarbrough, 163 Cooper Cemetery Road, Prospect Hill.
Condolences may be sent to www.brooksandwhite.com.
